Wine of great aromatic intensity. In the mouth it is vigorous and differentiating due to the combination of grape varieties. Touriga Nacional tames the great tannin character of Tannat. The result is a balanced and very versatile wine.
The estate dates back over 500 years with the first written mention of the property appearing in February 1492. Today, Quinta do Gradil is owned by Luis Vieira, who purchased the estate in 1999 and immediately set to work, completely renovating the vineyards and winemaking facilities. The property currently has 120 hectares planted to vine on sandy, clay-limestone soils.
Quinta do Gradil's Tinto is a 50/50 blend of Tannat and Touriga Nacional that is fermented in stainless steel tanks with 20% then aged in French oak. The wine pours a deep, opaque purple in the glass, displaying aromas of dark blue and black fruits accented with baking spice. The lush palate offers an abundance of soft dark fruits (blackberry, blueberry, plum) that are supported by a juicy acidity and mellow tannins. Ideal for anything off the grill, but will also shine with dishes with a spicy kick.
