So often Mataro is relegated to a supporting role behind its more well known 'Rhone' siblings but The Waxing Lyrical it is all about Mataro as a variety standing proud, front and center, singing the solo under a spotlight!!. The 2020 ‘Waxing Lyrical’ is crafted from equal portions of four different clones of Barossa Valley Mataro.
On the nose, spicy bright red berry fruits over black currants and violets curled seductively around a core of well tanned leather Chaps. On the palate, round summer red and black fruit interwoven with spicy varietals and great acid balance. Light grippy tannins balance the fruit while firm acid cleanses the mouth for the next sip. Its a complex and lithe wine that displays the wonderful potential in this variety and aromatic lightness sometimes missing in wines from the Barossa.
